BWCA – Fall 2009

Tags

This trip was in the middle of September and we had some of the best weather of the summer. On this trip was the Otto family (half of them anyway) and I. Paul and Nichole were in one canoe and Alex and I took the other. The first day started on the Little Indian Souix and finished on Lynx Lake with a stop at Devil’s Cascade for lunch. Lynx has one of my favorite campsites with some great fishing right from shore. The second night we stayed on Oyster Lake. Another nice campsite with lake on two sides. The campsite is located at the pinch on the long peninsula on the Northeast end of the lake. From the campsite if you take a short walk Southwest there are some cool bluffs to sit up on and look over the lake. We had an adventurous third day where we took a short cut that took us over about 7 beaver dams. Still better than portaging. We stayed this night on Nina Moose Lake. Oh yeah we forgot our water purifier and I decided to boil water to drink. The water on Nina Moose made me nervous, but Paul and company were not phased….and as far as I know they didn’t get the dreaded beaver fever. The last day we headed out early and like always we fought a head wind the entire way. Another great fall trip and I can’t wait for next year.

    Jesse,
I enjoyed looking at your pictures. I have made two trips from TN to BWCA and am looking forward to the next one, probably next summer. Is the fall even better than summer to make a trip up there? What is the weather like? It looked very pretty and clear from your pictures.
My wife and I also visited the north shore of Superior this past June. It was awesome! We camped at a park near the lake and visited the lighthouse the next day. We also did some hiking there and climbed several rocky points and bluffs. I couldn’t believe the clear water that Superior has! But it is cold!
I put my 14 foot Mohawk tandem canoe on top of our Tacoma. We did our fishing trips and exploring in it up in the BWCA. We went up to the Indian writings in Hegman Lake as well as visiting and camping at several other lakes.
Last year we did Basswood Falls and Jackfish? or Jackknife? Bay area. On that trip we put in at the State Park just north of Ely and paddled up to Basswood. It was a great 6 day trip.
Well, thanks for loading your pictures. Bill Bryson mentioned you in one of his videos, so I looked you up.
