Valdez – Day 3

Fishing Day! I’ve been thinking about this for awhile. It’s just fun to get out on the ocean or lake and do some fishing. Some friends of Bill’s parents were kind enough to let us use their boat. Thank you, whoever you are, because this was a fun day. First off, just sitting in a […]

Valdez – Day 2

This morning started out needing to make the Stan Stephens Tour to the Meares Glacier. The weather was overcast and rainy with a visibility of about 1 mile in Valdez. It was overcast enough that Bill’s dad wasn’t allowed to land in Valdez and their flight had to turn around. All the beautiful mountains that […]

Valdez – Day 1

I know in my last blog I said we would do two hikes today…my mind was willing, but my body needed a little rest. Our hike was an out and back 7 mile total hike on the Gold Creek Trail out to Gold Creek. A person can continue on all the way out to Shoup […]

Anchorage to Valdez, Aug. 14th

Since I met Bill, my brother in law, and found out he was from Alaska I have been on him to get a trip set up to his hometown of Valdez. After a couple of years of talking about it the opportunity opened itself for this week (August 14th – 21st). In the days leading […]

An Early Sunday Morning

On my way to work a couple of years ago I found this spot that, on the right morning at sunrise, offers some pretty spectacular views. I can’t tell you where this spot is because it has a fence that I have to climb over.  I figure I am doing no harm and the views […]

German Shepherds

I went to my sisters last Saturday to hang out and enjoy Scott’s delicious ribs. Honestly the best ribs I’ve ever had. We had a lot of fun just relaxing by the pool while Sawyer splashed and played. Scott in addition to being an excellent rib cook finds time to train their two German Shepherds. […]

Mushrooms

I went for a walk after work today and everywhere I looked there were mushrooms. When I walked this trail two weeks ago I didn’t see any. It is amazing how much the woods can change in a couple of weeks. I bought a mushroom book last summer and I will try to identify some […]

Sawyer’s 1st B-day

I know it’s what everyone says, but I can’t believe a year has gone by already. It is amazing how much Sawyer looks like a little boy and not a baby anymore.  It has been fun to watch him grow over this last year. It seems like just the other day that he first rolled […]

Drive to work….

I’ve been trying the last couple of weeks to get a shot of this grass in the morning. It’s right on the edge of the swamp and early in the morning it has been frosted. I have been a little late every morning and the frost is starting to melt. No matter what I try […]

Dark River Rabbit

Went for a quick walk after work down to Dark River. It was a really windy day and I was able to sneak up on this snowshoe hare.
